Mendelson Orthopedics & Kornblum Spine is a growing orthopedic practice comprised of orthopedic surgeons, physical and occupational therapists as well as physician assistants. Patient throughput and efficiency were targeted during this engagement to improve the patient experience. A redesign of patient flow dramatically reduced the patient office experience by 35% to 50% depending on the model of care; work teams 5S’d each office to organize supplies and standardize each exam room; additionally, a “triage” call center was implemented to reduce scheduling errors and time between appointments.
Leamington District Memorial Hospital’s partnership with Lean Fox Solutions began during the summer of 2008. We introduced Lean thinking to front line staff and management via numerous workshops, then conducted assessments of key service lines, e.g., Emergency, Med Surg, Diagnostic Imaging, etc. to create our project pipeline which lead to numerous kaizen events to eliminate waste and introduce standard work. This included redesigning the triage process to dramatically reduce LWOBS, and 5S’ing Surgery, Pharmacy and Emergency Services to reduce waste and improve value added services.
